Monash Formula SAE Team finishes 3rd in Australian Competition!

Formula SAE is an annual competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The competition challenges students to innovate, design, build and compete in small formula-style racing cars. Teams design cars within specifications of few safety constraints, which lead to enormous variance between race teams locally, and around the world. Formula SAE Australasia competition challenges over 20 universities from around the country and also tests the engineering capabilities of students travelling from overseas places such as Japan, New Zealand and Europe. Introduced in 2000, the universities of Australia have quickly ascended to the top of the world and are proving there worth by competing overseas.

Students involved in Monash Formula SAE are exposed to real engineering problems, where they:

§         Enhance their learning by applying theory learnt from lectures to real-life problems and understanding first hand key fundamentals of engineering.

§         Meet new friends and open new doors to experiences and support exclusive to team members within and outside of the university.

§         Be exposed and learn practical skills such as machining, welding , computer aided design (CAD) and more.

§         Attend special functions and events reserved for F-SAE members

§         Have increased chances of employment as major engineering companies specifically seek SAE-involved students.

The 2007 Monash University entry was a careful refinement of the 2006 vehicle. By carrying over the basic vehicle architecture the team could focus on eliminating weaknesses and maximising strengths. By focusing on design evolution and the value of testing, the team was able to extract more of the designs potential.  At the 2007 Australasian Formula SAE Competition, Monash University placed a creditable 3rd position. The team is very proud of this result as it is the highest placing in the team's history. Without the help of kind sponsors such as Meridian Motorsport this result would not be possible. Meridian Motorsport always made themselves available to help the team. From supplying parts to technical advice or dyno tuning, Meridian Motorsport were always prompt, helpful and professional.

This year we again look forward to working with our sponsors to make an even more competitive package for our 2008 campaign for victory
